Convenience Recruiting: Mobile Necessity

Long gone are the days of circling jobs in the daily or weekly newspaper, and cold calling candidates has become taboo, not to mention an annoyance for most potential job seekers. (Who wants to get a call during business hours to discuss a job you may have “Secretly” applied to?!)

Since the mid-90s, our society has continued to shift towards a focus on technological convenience for everyday life. Things like how we watch the latest movies or how we manage our bills have quickly evolved into a click of the button routine.

Locating a job has also adjusted to this newfound mobile necessity. Recent studies show that 92% of job seekers are actively searching for their next opportunity via smartphone or tablet. Searches and applies can be in the form of job boards like Indeed and CareerBuilder; who make applying a one-click process. Even social media outlets like Facebook’s new job posting capabilities and LinkedIn’s professional take on the job board, create popular and effective resources for hosting jobs. However, only around 30% of the U.S, job market is utilizing any of this space to highlight their current openings.

It is true, that there are times when it makes sense to only post positions internally or hire within. But typically, it is a lack of either time or understanding regarding mobile advertising that creates the barrier in posting jobs online.

How much does it cost? Who will respond to applicants as they come in? Do we have faith in the screening process offered by the job board outlets? Do we even have a social site?

Often, these questions become the stopping point for businesses to move forward.

So, how do businesses gain confidence in the area of mobile-friendly sourcing?

Research – From job boards to social sites, set aside time to get the lay of the land. Most of these outlets have free consultations and a library of standard questions to sort through. From there, you can put into place your understanding and look forward to increasing your candidate pool.

Or

Work with a Professional- If time is an issue for operating job boards and keeping up with the fast pace world of social media, then it may be time to work with a professional. Professional recruiting firms, like Pedagog, are already versed in these areas and can easily take the pressure off of you to navigate.  It also creates a second step in the screening process; eliminating extra work on your end.

There is no wrong choice, other than doing nothing.

Both paths will lead to a substantial increase of talent heading your way.

What path will you choose?
