Pursuing Your Passions

Pursuing Your Passions

Jeff’s Tips (Pursuing Your Passions)

Once again, today I heard someone give a young student the advice –“find out what you love or what you have a passion for and decide to pursue that”, in terms of a career. And, I don’t think that’s good advice to give young students or even maybe young professionals; who don’t yet have the experience to understand what someone is trying to tell you.

Most of us have parents and grandparents or know many other people who were quite successful later in their careers, but had to work hard at jobs, maybe two or three jobs, or doing things that they didn’t love and weren’t passionate about to put themselves in that position. Where, they then could take on the jobs and responsibilities that they did love and enjoyed people that they were fulfilled working with. But, you have to work hard to put yourself in that position. Oftentimes, those opportunities may not be presented earlier in your career.

I like to use the phrase:

Sometimes in life, you have to pursue passionately that what you are not passionate about.
